Life After 40: Why I’m Documenting This Season of My Life
Turning forty made me pause and reflect on this season of life after 40 in a way I hadn’t before. Sometimes life reaches a point where you begin to pause and ask deeper questions.
For me, that moment came when I turned forty.
Not because forty suddenly makes you wise, or because something dramatic happens the day you reach that age. In many ways life continues exactly as it was before. The same responsibilities, the same routines, the same everyday rhythm of family life, work, and all the things that fill our days.
But somewhere along the way, I started noticing a quiet shift in how I see life.
I began to realise that the years move quickly. That the seasons of life change faster than we expect. And that the kind of woman I am becoming matters more than ever before. For a long time, life felt like it was moving from one responsibility to the next. Marriage, motherhood, church, work, family, and commitments. All good things. Beautiful things. But in the middle of all of it, I realised that I had spent many years simply responding to life rather than intentionally shaping the woman I wanted to become.
Turning forty made me pause and ask myself a few honest questions.
What kind of woman do I want to be in this next season of life?
What habits am I building day by day?
What kind of example am I setting for my daughters?
And what does it look like to live a life that is not rushed, not reactive, but thoughtful and intentional?
The truth is, I don’t have all the answers to those questions.
In fact, one of the most freeing realisations I’ve had recently is that I don’t need to have everything figured out before I begin moving forward. Growth rarely happens once we “arrive.” Growth happens while we are still becoming.
That is why I decided to start documenting this journey.
Not because I have mastered discipline, or perfected my routines or even because I have life all neatly organised and figured out.
But simply because I am learning.
Learning how to live more intentionally, how to care for my body and mind better, how to slow down and listen to God more closely, how to build habits that reflect the life I truly want to live and most importantly how to raise thoughtful, grounded daughters in a complicated world.
And I have a feeling I’m not the only one walking through this kind of season. Many women reach a point in life where something inside begins to stir. A quiet desire for something deeper. Not more noise but more peace and more purpose. A life that feels aligned with who God created them to be.
This space is simply my way of sharing the journey as it unfolds.
Some days I will write about faith. Other days about motherhood, discipline, routines, health, or the small lessons life teaches along the way. There will be reflections, honest moments, and hopefully encouragement for any woman who finds herself asking similar questions about life and the woman she is becoming.
I am not writing from a place of having arrived.
I am writing from the middle of the journey.
From the early mornings where I’m learning the beauty of quiet time with God before the house wakes up. From the gym sessions that are teaching me that discipline shapes far more than just our bodies. From the everyday moments of motherhood that remind me how powerful our small daily habits really are.
This season of life feels like an invitation.
An invitation to slow down.
An invitation to grow.
An invitation to become the woman God has been shaping all along.
So these are simply reflections from my journal as I learn, grow, and continue becoming.
And if you find yourself walking a similar journey, you are very welcome here.
