Trust God’s Calling: 5 Lessons from the Life of Moses
“Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.” — Deuteronomy 34:10
Trust God’s calling, even when it feels bigger than you. If you were guaranteed success, if there were no limits, no fear, and no shortage of time or money, what would you do with your life?
Most of us have dreams tucked away in our hearts, things we believe we were made to do. Yet we hesitate, not because we don’t care, but because we’re afraid.
Moses knew that feeling well. He’s one of the clearest pictures in Scripture of someone called by God who didn’t feel ready for it. And yet his story teaches us what happens when we choose to trust God’s calling, even when it feels too big for us.
1. God’s Calling Often Feels Too Big
When God asked Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt, his first reaction was fear.
“Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11
Moses wasn’t being dramatic, he genuinely felt unqualified. Maybe you’ve felt that way too. But here’s the truth: God rarely calls the qualified. He qualifies the called.
When you trust God’s calling, you’ll realize that He’s not looking for perfection; He’s looking for willingness.
2. God Already Knows Your Limitations
Moses reminded God that he wasn’t a good speaker. He pointed out every weakness. But God already knew.
“Who gave human beings their mouths? … Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Exodus 4:11–12
When you trust God’s calling, you stop apologizing for the way you were made. God knows your insecurities, your personality, and your past, and He still chose you.
Your weaknesses don’t disqualify you; they make room for His strength. You can read the full story of Moses’ calling in Exodus 3–4 on Bible Gateway
3. Obedience Matters More Than Confidence
Moses didn’t suddenly become fearless. He simply obeyed. Every time he went back to Pharaoh, every miracle he performed, every step through the desert, he did it because he trusted the One who called him.
If you wait until you feel brave, you’ll wait forever. Start with obedience, and confidence will follow.
Trust isn’t about having no fear; it’s about moving forward despite it.
4. Your Story Will Encourage Others
Imagine if Moses had refused God’s call. Think of the generations that would have missed out on deliverance, leadership, and hope.
The same is true for you. When you trust God’s calling, your obedience becomes someone else’s encouragement. Your story of faith gives others the courage to say yes to their own.
5. God Always Finishes What He Starts
By the end of Moses’ life, the same man who once said, “I can’t speak,” was remembered as the greatest prophet in Israel.
God doesn’t just begin a story, He finishes it. When you walk in obedience, you’ll see His faithfulness unfold in ways you never imagined.
If you’re unsure, start small. Take the first step. Write the email. Apply for the opportunity. Say yes to the assignment. Trust God’s calling, and watch what He does with your obedience.
When you decide to trust God’s calling, remember that every step of obedience builds faith. Each “yes” to God strengthens your courage for the next assignment. It’s never about perfection, it’s about progression.

Lord,
Thank You for calling me, even when I feel unqualified. Teach me to trust You more than I trust my fears. Remind me that You already know my limitations, and You still want to use me. Help me to walk in obedience and to see my life the way You see it, full of purpose, meaning, and potential.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
