Abide in Christ: 5 Lessons on Growing Through Every Season
Abide in Christ, that’s the invitation Jesus gives us in John 15:5. It’s a reminder that no matter what season of life we’re in, our strength and fruitfulness come from staying connected to Him. Have you ever felt like life has slipped into a long, cold winter? You’re showing up, you’re praying, but nothing seems to bloom
Jesus knew we’d have seasons like this. That’s why He said:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
This verse is a gentle reminder to abide in Christ, to stay connected to Him no matter what the season looks like.

1. Winter Is Just a Season
The trees outside stand tall through every storm. They lose their leaves, face freezing winds, and yet they remain. They don’t panic because they know spring will come again.
The same is true for us. When you abide in Christ, you learn that tough seasons don’t last forever. God uses the cold, quiet months to strengthen your roots. What looks like loss is often preparation for new growth.
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
2. God Is Working Beneath the Surface
Even when you can’t see it, God is at work. The roots of your faith are growing deeper in hidden places.
When life feels still, don’t assume God has stopped moving. The work He’s doing inside of you often happens underground. He’s building your endurance, your peace, and your trust.
When you continue to abide in Christ, you begin to see that silence isn’t absence, it’s shaping.
3. Stay Close to the Source
Jesus said, “Without Me, you can do nothing.” It’s a strong statement, but it’s true. Apart from Him, we dry out.
To abide in Christ means to stay close to your Source every day, through prayer, worship, and reading His Word. When you stay connected to the vine, His life flows into yours.
That’s why even in your hardest days, you can still feel peace. You might not have control, but you have connection, and that makes all the difference.
“He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3
4. Don’t Compare Your Season
It’s easy to look at someone else and think, “They never seem to struggle.” They look like evergreen trees, always flourishing. But remember, God’s plans for you are unique.
Maybe He’s using this season to refine you in ways that others don’t need. Don’t envy someone else’s growth. Focus on your own soil.
When you abide in Christ, you can celebrate others’ blessings without feeling left behind, because you trust that your spring will come too.
“Each of us should test our own actions… without comparing ourselves to someone else.” Galatians 6:4
5. Every Season Has a Purpose
God wastes nothing. Every season serves a purpose, even the cold ones.
Winter teaches faith. Spring brings renewal. Summer produces fruit. Autumn reveals surrender. Together they shape who we are in Him.
So no matter what season you’re in right now, waiting, thriving, grieving, rebuilding, keep your roots in Jesus. Abide in Christ, and you’ll find that fruit always grows in its appointed time.

Father,
Thank You for being my vine and my source of strength. When life feels quiet or hard, remind me that You are still working. Help me to abide in Christ through every season, winter, spring, summer, and fall. Teach me to grow where You’ve planted me and to trust that fruit will come in Your perfect timing.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
